Community Reporting Workshop

Publicity workshop: Youth will learn methods and skills necessary to promote the community and its activities. Focus areas will include grassroots posters; brochures; newsletters; press releases and the internet. Tests will be conducted for production skills and students will produce a fourth community media event. The third community media event will be aired on community television.

Preparation:

Acquire markers and bristol board for handmade posters. Facilitator will also provide 11X17 paper and wide format printer.

Plan for community media publicity event on Thursday afternoon.

Set up the interview appointments for event themes: Sharing Our Future Youth; Come Home Year and the Special Event community radio broadcast. Prepare a re-useable intro and outro clip. Find two other clips of community interest in the video archives.



Follow up: Distribute the publicity posters. Prepare a list of relevant media contacts. Prepare a list of target audiences, both within the community and outside the community. Start an email list of the Burnt Islands Community Media audience.

1. 10 a.m. - Facilitators' meeting. Planning programming for a live community television for publicity event and the community radio event.
