Webcasting and Videoconferencing from
Global Community Networks Congress 2002

Telecommunities Canada, The Victoria Free-Net Association and Ryakuga partnered to provide video webcasting from the Global Community Networks Congress in Montreal, Canada, Oct. 10 -12.
We first webcast Oct. 11 from 4 to 5:30 and then from 9 to 12:30 a.m. local time.
We focused on the plenaries for The World Summit on the Information Society: What Role for International Civil Society.
Please note this is a grassroots project. We will use equipment and software readily available to community networks and media groups.
The video webcast was streamed from a British Columbia Community Networks Association server. On Saturday we experienced problems accessing the BC server so we switched to a Ryakuga server. This means the rtsp adress changes.
The best way to connect is to use QuicKTime 4, 5 or 6 as a stand alone player without the browser. Then you will connect directly to the server.
The webcast will be archived, initially as a QuickTime audio file and later as QuickTime video.
Note - Oct. 21 (2002): The webcasts are now archived on the streaming server. We used the new MP4 format for high quality but it requires a 100 kbps connection. We figure anybody wanting to listen to the plenaries will have broadband. However, let us know if you want to listen with a dialup modem and we will process the files accordingly.
Addendum (2005) - The files have been reprocessed and archived as QuickTime audio files.
