Ryakuga Tutorial

1. You need QuickTime 4, 5 or 6 free player to view a live broadcast (you can't use Windows Media Player - download a free QuickTime player). The live broadcasting software is - Sorenson Broadcaster. You can't use an earlier QuickTime such as version 3. Click on the logo below to get a free player.

2. If you already have QuickTime 4, 5 or 6 installed on your computer, you can use the player as a stand-alone to tune in. At the time of the broadcast, proceed with the following steps. In other words, you won't have to use your browser to tune in to the broadcast. This method will probably give you the most stable signal.
(a) Connect to the internet.
(b) Open the QuickTime 4, 5 or 6 Player.
(c) Click file/open url.
(d) Enter the following url: rtsp://199.60.222.47/hub.mov
(e) Make sure you have set your QuickTime player preferences for the speed of your connection. This webcast will not work with port 80 streaming.
(f) Your player will connect, negotiate and then buffer (store the image for 20 seconds) before going live. We broadcast video only for high speed connections: you will need about 170 kbps connection to view the webcast.
3. Check www.ryakuga.org for the time of the next webcast. Click on the headset at this time. Please note that because of the bandwidth required for video webcasting, there will be limited access to the webcast. You may have to keep trying until somebody signs off.

4. There is also a third method you can use to listen to the live broadcast with QuickTime 4, 5 or 6 Free Player. Fill out our subscription form and add your address to our mailing list. At the time of the broadcast we will send you a an email with a small attachment: ryakuga.mov (about 1 k in size). You will then connect to the internet; open QuickTime 4 free player; click open file, and open the attachment: ryakuga.mov. You will go straight to the broadcast.
5. Again, make sure you have the QuickTime preferences set correctly for your internet connection speed. If you have firewall problems, get your technicans to open up port 554 in the firewall so you can receive the webcasts. Email ryakuga@ryakuga.org if you still have questions.
